Short description: The aim of this course is to familiarize students with modern knowledge of cell- live signs and cooperation of all intercellular structures. Moreover presentation of the latest data about cell interactions and how the tissues are formed.
Full description: Lectures: Cell membranes (structure, transport). Cell nucleus (molecular structure, chromatin activation, gene structure, synthesis and maturation of mRNA and rRNA, DNA replication). Cell cycle (mitosis and meiosis). Interphase - phase G1, S, G2 induction of cell cycle and its regulation. Receptors and signal transduction Membrane receptors and the signal transduction pathways Cell differentiation (determination, metaplasia, interactions between cells In differentiation Cell aging and cell death. Changes in nucleus, cytoplasm and cell membrane; necrosis and apoptosis Labolatory: Cell nucleus and nucleolus. Structure and function of endoplasmic reticulum Cell membrane and cell organelles. Structure and function of Golgi complex. Egzocytosis, endocytosis and receptor endocytosis and transcytosis. Cell metabolic turnover. Mitochondria. Cytoskeleton and intercellular bonds Histophysiology of connective tissue. Synthesis of intercellular substance and its role in tissue turnover. Histophysiology of muscle tissue. Contraction and hypertrophy of skeletal muscle. MyoD in differentiation of muscle cells Histophysiology of nerve tissue. Mechanism of signal transduction. Synapse and secretion.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria: The rating upon test screening. Final assesment: 50% credit lab, 50% exam.
